During an Open Studio you get a peek in Korzo's rehearsal studios for free. Usually an audience only sees the final result of a performance, but during an Open Studio you get to see a work-in-progress and a maker that is still very much creating. An exclusive preview where you are the first critic.
This edition, circus maker Alžběta/Betka Tichá opens the doors of her studio. You can enjoy her work in the project Frequency, an investigation into the possibilities of body monitoring and circus. What does a circus performer gain from all the real-time data from, say, a smartwatch? Can that data enrich a work and can it create a dialogue between technology and the creator? In Frequency, Betka explores the complex relationship between the body, mind and technology, offering a challenging and engaging experience for both audience and maker.
Bětka is a circus artist with experience in modern dance. She studied at the Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague before discovering her passion for contemporary circus. Through physical theatre and object manipulation she came to her major in aerial acrobatics. In 2020 she graduated from Codarts - University of Arts in the Netherlands, majoring in vertical rope. Her main artistic work focused on "intuitive movement" in acrobatics she was developing during her study. The main inspiration was animal movement. Together with this concept she worked on acrobatic movement with masks. With her further interest in circus research, she graduated from the ICCAR program in 2023. She is currently looking for ways to approach her work in circus disciplines. Through this interest, she has begun to work on a new concept and research that focuses on feelings and body language during performance on stage. In this concept, Bětka has connected with the field of technology, which helps her to develop this research. Alžběta has also worked as a performer in projects such as Thin Skin by Eliška Brtnická et al, The Jungle Book by Štěpán Pechar and Matěj Forman, Body Landscape by Radim Vizváry and others.
