Fatoumata acquired fame through her role as Princess Karaba in the film musical Kirikou et Karaba (Kirikou and the Withch). After her youth in the Ivory Coast, she moved to Mali where she found her musical roots. Currently living in Paris, Fatoumata began her musical career with the music project Red Earth by Dee Dee Bridgewater. After that, she sung with artists such as Cheick Tidiane Seck (who she considers her musical father) and big stars such as Youssou N'Dour, Oumou Sangaré, Rokia Traoré and Angelique Kidjo. Her ‘new wassoulou folk’ combines tradition with pop and jazz.
