De Veenfabriek brings an ode to composer Edgard Varèse (1883-1965) with Kristal. In spite of opposition and resistance, Varèse laboured his whole life for the liberation of sound from its historic restraints. Varèse introduced new instruments, among which the siren, into the existing range of orchestral instruments, and thus caused innovations in the New Music.

Diner €17,50 Kristal is a portrait in concert form of Edgard Varèse told, sung and performed by actors Yonina Spijker and Reinout Bussemaker and De Veenfabriek’s nine-member ‘Sirene Orkest’. With which de Veenfabriek realizes Varèse’s wish and makes a strong plea for the beauty of the experiment.
