Today the policy plan for the Arts Het Cultureel Kapitaal van Den Haag (the Cultural Capital of The Hague) was published. It included a positive assessment for Korzo for the long-term policy plan 2013-2016 Arts and Culture. Read the assessment of the advisory commission on Korzo here:
The Commission has great appreciation for Korzo’s application. It is sound, inspired, well motivated, realistic, and is of a high standard regarding the artistic content. The programming in the area of dance and contemporary music is exemplary.
The Commission is pleased that the dance institutions in The Hague are managing increasingly to find each other and are working together as a chain to a greater degree than in the recent past. The already close collaboration between Korzo and the Holland Dance Festival is to be intensified further, while in the field of talent development there is an emphatic partnership with the NDT. Due to the fact that the NDT will use a part of the municipal budget to give form to talent development together with Korzo, Korzo, in turn, will be able to solve a part of their financial problems arising from the discontinuation of their general subsidies. In this regard, the Commission finds it of great importance that the flow of talent from Korzo to the Netherlands’ largest modern dance company can be facilitated to a greater degree than before.
With regard to the budget, the Commission has ascertained that Korzo has managed to negotiate a well-established long-term agreement with Fonds 1818. The Commission does however question the feasibility of the budgeted independent income. Furthermore, the Commission finds that Korzo could have examined the costs involved more critically.
From the point of view of city marketing and artistically speaking, dance is of great importance to The Hague. For this reason, the Commission finds a limited increase of the current subsidy desirable, also in the light of the discontinuation of the national government, to help maintain a strong chain of dance institutions for The Hague.
