Ederson Rodrigues Xavier was born in Brazil, where he was introduced with the styles of Capoeira, Afro Jazz, modern danc and classical ballet. In 1993 he came to the Netherlands to continue his education. Here he immersed himself in the release technique and improvisation at the SNDO (Amsterdam School of the Arts). Since then Ederson has lived and worked in the Nederlands and worked with companies such as Leine&Roebana, Paul Selwyn Norton, Djazzex, Quasar Company of Dance (Brazil) and Frankfurt Ballet (Germany). From 1997 until 2004 he was part of the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. With this company he also made his debut as a choreographer with Quartet, a work for the Scapino Ballet Workshop. Since then Ederson regularly works as a choreographer for this company. In 2002 he won the Silver Theatre and Dance Prize from the VSCD. The jury praised his recognizable style: sharp, passionate and lyrical. In 2009 he was again winner in the category Beste Male Performance, with the DudaPaivaCompany (puppet theatre and dance), for the piece Maledicton.
Ederson currently works as an independent choreographer, dancer and teacher in Amsterdam. He creates performances for Korzo producties, Dansmakers Amsterdam and other companies in the Netherlands and Europe, where he integrates elements of improvisation in his choreographies and shares his knowledge with other dancers in open performances and workshops. Ederson worked with artists from all disciplines of the art world: composers, visual artists, film makers, actors, sculptors, designers and painters, such as Felipe Perez Santiago, David Drum, Greg Smith, Simeon ten Holt, Arnold Marinissen, Helena Rasker, Pierluigi Pompeii, AZIZ and Eef van de Graaf.
