Once emerged from the funeral mass, Requiem belongs to one of the most beloved genres of sacred music since the dawn of the human kind. The central part of the Requiem is the sequent Dies Irea. This prayer that asks for forgiveness and reconciliation has found an unprecedented resonance. However, its purely instrumental version did not exist yet. Ensemble Shapeshift and the Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin create a compelling and original perspective on the genre. Violins replace the human voice and sound like a song for forgiveness, as a lamentation and as the chirping of the birds. And it is precisely this contrast that brings us to the core of the Lacrimosa – perhaps the most human, prayerful supplication for God’s forgiveness and pardon. Lacrimosa or 13 Magic Songs aims to appeal to man's soul, to provoke the awakening of its emotions, the desire for purification, and forgiveness; reconcile with world and itself, which nowadays is now so lacking in our lives.
