This unique evening of music sees the premiere of the piece Timber that the famous Michael Gordon wrote for Percussion The Hague. This late-night concert is an almost spiritual experience through the sustained energy of rolls on so-called simantras (instruments made of wooden beams) that bring the audience into a sort of trance. The six players are situated around the audience to amplify the circling energy.
The work was originally used in the dance performance Pinball & Grace by Club Guy & Roni and Percussion The Hague. The purely musical version of this work is different, however, and now sees its world premiere under the title Timber.
Combined ticket with KOnStruct #2 by Slagwerk Den Haag: € 22,50.
“Timber appears to be a dazzling piece – a rhythmic spiral of repetitive sound clusters, beat in a strict rhythm from which subtle overtones slowly emerge. …Timber proves itself as a true piece of ‘ambient’ music. Even the sceptics are convinced, and an resounding applause ensues.” (Gonzo, 26 February ’11)
