Today Your Black Shoes are Grey

Marina Mascarell Martinez | Korzo productions

Galileo showed that although we see the sun revolve around the Earth, it is actually the Earth that revolves around the Sun. Diderot warned to be wary of the eyes and senses. I see the flat horizon but the Earth is round. Reason and argument are what make me understand, not the eyes. When modern information is based on the idea that seeing equals understanding, it contributes to a tremendous intellectual regression that brings us back several centuries. (Jose Luis Sampedro, Economía Humanista)

This piece has been growing in Marina Mascarell’s head for a long time. With the need to analyze and question this issue, she found so much material, that to summarize it in thirty minutes would be insane. So, what you will see tonight is a brief summary of the ravages of greed in human beings and their surroundings, in a world that remains the same as before.

Marina Mascarell danced with the Nederlands Dans Theater I and II till last season. She gained much experience in choreography in the choreography workshops. She also created works for the CaDance festival in The Hague and the Scapino Ballet in Rotterdam. For the last edition of UpComing Choreographers she created the piece Lament for those who envied Betty Jones. Marina Mascarell was awarded a prize in Madrid, Spain for her achievements as a dancer as well as her work as a choreographer.
