Joeri Dubbe

Born in Haarlem, Joeri Alexander Dubbe attended the National Ballet Academy and was honored as Most Talented Student. He began his dance career with an apprenticeship with the Dutch National Ballet. He performed with this company for four years with the coryphées, to make the transition to the Nederlands Dans Theater II.

He danced with this company till the summer 2008 in works such as Ohad Naharin’s Minus16 and Spit; in the choreographies Postscript, Sleight of Hand, Subject to Change and Said and Done by Lightfoot Leon and in Kylian’s Sleepless, 27’52, Chapeau and Indigo Rose.

Joeri was one of the finalists in the Dutch delegation to the Eurovision Young Dancer Competition. He is now working in the Dutch freelance circuit, performing in such projects as the choreography Honey Crypto by Kenzo Kusuda.

In addition, Joeri performed at such events as Julidans in Paradiso, Sensation White, Hart improvisation in Club Panama and Electronation.

Korzo took Joeri Dube under its wing as a choreographer in 2009. His first work Prospect Future, was created for the 2008 Here we live and now. This performance was shown at Todays Art and the World Expo in Shanghai; it is also included in this season’s DansClick tour.

He received three more commissions from Korzo in the 2009-2010 season: Joeri made a short piece for the Holland Dance Festival program Present of Past, a new presentation for Here we live and now, and he also participated in an exchange project with South Africa for the 2010 BIG5 Festival. His latest and first full-length performance, Chrono premiered at the 2011 CaDance Festival, was selected for the Blind Date tour and toured with great success through the Netherlands. Dubbe won the prestigious BNG Prize, for New Theatermakers with Chrono.

On October 8, 2011 he won de Prize for the Nederlandse Dansdagen. Now he is creating the video-dance-installation Point Cloud, which will premiere at the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2012. And he is also asked to open the CaDance Festival 2013 in the Up & Coming Choreographers program.

Producties:

The earth has evolved, from the Big Bang to where we are now. And humanity is also still developing. In Point Cloud, we see a man with knowledge and conviction. But he has doubts. In an attempt to find the truth, he allows himself to be swallowed up by his self-created world, his little universe, and he pulls us in as well. Joeri Dubbe toys with credibility in this installation and up-ends our perspective on life.

The up and coming young choreographer Joeri Dubbi received the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht prize last year.

Recensies:

Jiří Pokorný makes a surprising debut with Doze. A ballet with tense impulses, skilful floor work, and complex group sculptures in an unreal, intangible world.” (NRC Handelsblad)

…Meng-ke Wu’s intriguing solo, in which she dances with her back to the audience, commands admiration.” (theaterkrant.nl on Joeri Dubbe)

“Trigger-Happy leaves you wanting more” (de Volkskrant)

All senses will be disrupted on the last day. The evening begins with Cinedans, Internationally one of the leading institutions in the area where cinema and dance overlap. A Panorama specially compiled from their collection for The Lighthouse will be shown throughout the festival.

Korzo presents a new festival in The Hague from 13 till 17 March: The Lighthouse. Dutch and international acts will set the Korzo building ablaze. The festival brings artists together from many directions and disciplines in a rush of creativity. As a beacon to head for, a shining source of hope, faith, and inspiration. For five days the arts will bring enlightenment: at the entrance, in the foyer, the dressing rooms, even the restrooms. And aside from the installations that are continually on display throughout the festival, each day is completely different.

What is a financial crisis compared to the human crisis called war? The Dutch photographer Geert van Kesteren was twice the recipient of the Silver Camera and World Press awards for his report on the war in Iraq, Baghdad Calling. He gives a lecture on his work especially for The Lighthouse.

The second part of the evening is just as exclusive. The young choreographer Joeri Dubbe made a special version of his hit performance Chrono.

The Korzo production house has been celebrating the choreographic talent that abounds in The Hague with Here We Live And Now – a title referring to the city and the times in which we live – since 2006. Dance creatives from The Hague are invited to create new work and to present this work in a full-length program. For the 2009-edition, Joeri Dubbe presented his work Prospect Future.

With great attention to music, costumes, and lighting, choreographer Joeri Dubbe delves together with light designer Tom Visser into the relationship between man and technology. Are we slowly being poisoned by the technology that surrounds us? Are we slowly turning into robots, or does technology offer us opportunities to grow as human beings? Chrono creates a world where the difference between real and false is elusive. The characters fight themselves out of the illusion, reality becomes more and more visible.
