22nd edition of CaDance Festival kicks off

Last night, Friday 16 May, saw the launch of the 22nd edition of CaDance, The Hague’s leading contemporary dance festival. Korzo director Jimmy-Pierre de Graaf set the festival in motion with Tú Hoàng and Johannes Langkamp’s interactive installation Flow Unseen. The evening continued with the Dutch premieres of Silver Lining by in-house artist Constantin Trommlitz and Pride Perspectives, a triple bill by three queer creators.
With the world premiere of Deep Time, in-house maker Astrid Boons marked the end of her residency at Korzo. This year’s festival also features first-time performances of SENESCENCE, How we move into the dark, and Stand by Me. Running until 25 May, CaDance brings The Hague to life with an exciting mix of performances, films, a vogue club night, workshops, delegation events, and the presentation of the Leo Spreksel Award. Full programme and tickets at cadance.nl.
Flow Unseen Installation
Step into the Korzo foyer during CaDance and experience Flow Unseen — a free, interactive installation. A 4-metre staff suspended from the ceiling with flowing textiles responds to movement with ripples and twists. Inspired by the Taoist concept of Wu Wei — acting in harmony rather than control — this living sculpture invites everyone to explore its motion. Whether you’re observing or joining in, your presence brings the work to life. Tú Hoàng, one of Korzo’s in-house makers, blends choreography with artistic interventions like this installation.

Astrid Boons Spreads Her Wings
Artist in residence Astrid Boons, who joined Korzo in 2016, spreads her wings with her latest piece Deep Time. After a dance career with NDT1, Krisztina de Châtel and Pina Bausch, she has spent the past years at Korzo honing her voice as a creator. “I’ve been given the space to deepen my artistic practice, and I’m truly grateful for that. It helped me understand myself better and experiment freely. The real turning point for me was creating Khôra in 2023. Its follow-up, Deep Time, premiered yesterday and I’m excited to tour it this autumn.”
Leo Spreksel Award
On Sunday afternoon 18 May, Korzo hosts the fourth edition of the Leo Spreksel Award ceremony during CaDance. The award will be presented right after the performance of Tender Resistence by Faizah Grootens — last year’s recipient. Through this award, Leo Spreksel highlights emerging choreographers he sees as future trailblazers.
