Wubkje Kuindersma

Born in Cameroun, the Dutch Wubkje Kuindersma was a dancer with the Danish Dance Theatre, Random Dance, the Gulbenkian Ballet, Djazzex, Rogie & Company, and was involved with other companies and projects. In 2009, she created her first choreography, Aquasomnia, which immediately won her an award for ‘originality of movement vocabulary and outstanding movement quality’ at the Choreography Competition in Cologne.

Her first dance videos were presented at the 2010 Dansensdage in Copenhagen. Various choreographies and dance films followed for which she was awarded a number of prizes. Through works she created with the Noverre Society in Stuttgart, she came to the attention of Kevin Haigen, artistic director of the National Youth Ballet in Hamburg (Germany) where she is currently creating her third production. After having worked abroad for years, Wubkje moved back to the Netherlands in the summer of 2014. In the fall of that year, Korzo and Nederlands Dans Theater invited her to create a piece for the dance event Here We Live And Now. She recently worked with actors of the Toneelacademie Maastricht; she made a work especially for them entitled BLINDSPOT. In addition to her work as a choreographer, Wubkje works as an instructor with companies such as Introdans, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Project Sally, Danish Dance Theatre, Skanes Dans Teater, the Henny Jurriens Foundation, Academy of Dramatic Arts Maastricht, Copenhagen Film and Theatre School, and she writes for the Danish dance magazine Terpsichore. Korzo has nominated her for the talent development project DANSLOKAAL by the company from Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst. This project premieres on Friday 4 September 2015.

Simons was awarded the Swan for 'best dance performance' for his duet Romance which he created together with photographer Rineke Dijkstra. The other two premieres are by young choreographers: Peter Leung and Korzo talent Wubkje Kuindersma.
