Niño de Elche

Francisco Contreras, Molina, alias Niño de Elche, is a flamenco singer, but not like the ones we’re accustomed to. Singer songwriter, vocal artist, and improviser, Niño de Elche pulls no punches, he gladly rebels against conventions in his socially engaged lyrics and performances. In this season’s second Flamenco Biennial Intermezzo, the rebellious singer comes with his trio to present his newest CD Antología del Flamenco heterodoxo, hot off the presses, on which, you guessed it, he gives his unorthodox interpretations of the flamenco tradition. His previous album, Voces del Extremo (2015) in which he set texts by new socially engaged poets of the Poesía de la Consciencia movement to an electronic soundscape, was named Album of the Year by Spanish newspaper El País.
