Embracing a world that never stands still.
De Volkskrant called this duo, who have been on stage together for 10 years, “the Ulay and Marina Abramovic of our time”. In their performance FLUX, Marta and Kim turn human contact inside out and attempt to look each other in the eye. Circus becomes dance and dance becomes circus. Like no other, they are able to merge two bodies together into one sentient thing. The social becomes personal and the chaos alternates with something to hold on to. And just when they think they have a grip on things, things change again. Sounds familiar, right? In this new performance by Marta & Kim, that complexity of ‘life’ gets a big embrace
Marta and Kim-Jomi Alstadsæter create performances in which dance and circus come together in a distinct way. They use the fantasy of the circus and the refinement of dance to create something that is raw, personal and immediately recognizable. Their work revolves around contact between people: how bodies work together, react and sense each other. They play with contrasts such as strength and vulnerability, control and surrender. This creates images that say something without words and can really touch you.
Since 2016, Marta and Kim have been making performances that they show at home and abroad. They are affiliated with Dansateliers and regularly collaborate with Festival Circolo in The Netherlands and Davvi in Norway, which means that their work is firmly rooted in both countries.
