A little often something is called ‘eclectic’ but it still feels a bit… well… more of the same. That certainly isn’t the case with the concert series ‘In Bloom’. The theme of this edition? Order & Chaos. With three eccentric sound artists who have been brought together especially for this edition by The Hague composer Lise Morrison. Pietro Elia Barcellona who reintroduces the double bass to you. A dance between an instrument as an extension of the body of Britt van den Boogaard. And finally the self-built ‘Misfit Harp’ with electromagnetic feedback by Siavash Jafari.
And yes, you may have to be a bit of an audiophile to blossom here tonight, but if you turn on your childlike curiosity here, you will be amazed!
Siavash Jafari – The Misfit Harp
Siavash Jafari is a sound artist, musician and instrument builder from The Hague. Known for his Misfit Harp, a self-built electroacoustic string instrument designed to produce evolving masses of sound through a combination of electromagnetic feedback, programmable pitch modulation, and gestural control. Each string is tuned by a network of coils and stepper motors, which respond to the performer’s movements in real time via a custom-made glove. Pietro Elia Barcellona - "Da un respiro, un battito, che non finisce mai”.
Pietro Elia Barcellona - "Da un respiro, un battito, che non finisce mai
Pietro Elia Barcellona is a double bass player, specialized in experimental music and new music improvisation. At In Bloom we hear his "Da un respiro, un battito, che non finisce mai". A tribute to "Voyage that never ends" by Stefano Scodanibbio. Pietro reinterprets parts of the original composition - a journey through the complexity and possibilities of the double bass and tries to give a personal view on what he can express with the instrument. Interested in the boundaries of composition and improvisation, this performance is tailored to the audience in Korzo.
Britt van den Boogaard – A fine line between
A fine line between is an audiovisual choreography in which the portable instrument that Britt developed extends the body. Through physical phenomena such as spring reverb and string vibrations, constantly changing sound structures are created. Instead of simply playing the instrument, Britt forms a symbiotic relationship with it: she reacts to the unpredictable sounds it produces. For Britt, playing is a way to find a balance between over- and understimulation, something that is difficult for her to grasp. It is a search for coincidental sounds and small details that bring attention to the present. Britt performs together with Wajda Tamer, who controls light and sound.
