Vladyslav interrogates the great Jean Cocteau
A poem cannot die. And that makes a poet immortal according to Jean Cocteau. But can you also expect all the wisdom from the poetry of the past to find its way into the future? And thereby change the world for the better? If you have experienced a war like the Ukrainian choreographer, dancer and director Vladyslav has, then that is still the question. In this cinematic dance performance with music by Harkusha and Erik Satie, he investigates how the raw reality influences our human inner world despite those arts. The poetic movements of Vladyslav and Veronika Raktina come very close to the spoken art of Jean Cocteau. These dance poets try to understand our place in the world. Perhaps to change the future themselves.
Vladyslav Detiuchenko studied in Kyiv and founded n’Era Dance Productions in 2016. Due to the Russian invasion in 2022, he left for The Netherlands, where he worked with United Ukrainian Ballet and later with Korzo. His work shows the impact of war and migration, as can be seen in his dance film Rhythms of Resilience, which was shown internationally. He collaborated with Igone de Jongh and presented work at Theater Carré and Stuttgart Ballet, among others. Vladyslav is not afraid to explore the physical boundaries of movement, to create cinematic atmospheres. In 2025, he founded the n’Era Foundation together with Veronika Rakitina, to support Ukrainian culture and contemporary dance in the Netherlands.
