The Idle Hour (work-in-progress)
Can we ever stop the hamster that won’t stop running in their wheel? During this Open Studio, circus artist Samuel Rhyner invites you to take an exclusive look behind the scenes of his newest creation The Idle Hour. In this public rehearsal, he and performer William Blenkin will share a fragment of the work, followed by an open conversation in which you, the audience, are invited to share your impressions and reflections.
The Idle Hour is a non-verbal contemporary circus performance exploring the relentless pursuit of productivity in modern life. On a bare stage, with only a human-sized hamster wheel as its centerpiece, two contrasting characters - one restless, the other calm - engage in a physical dialogue that becomes a metaphor for our endless race toward elusive happiness. Through a poetic fusion of acrobatics, dance, and sound, the piece invites you to pause and reflect on the pressures of modern living and the possibility of finding peace amidst chaos.
Limited capacity, so reserve your free ticket in time.
Samuel Rhyner is a Swiss circus artist and creator, trained at the Academy for Circus and Performance Art in Tilburg (NL). His work moves between acrodance, music, and installation, exploring with curiosity the boundaries between body, movement, and stillness.
