After the overwhelming success of Carmina Burana (2018) Festival Classique once again brings a spectacular opera to the Scheveningen beach: Aida at Sea.
Giuseppe Verdi wrote Aida in 1871 and since that time the opera has been a success worldwide. The opera takes place in the desert during a war between the two large African kingdoms of antiquity: the kingdoms of Egypt and Ethiopia. It goes without saying that the beach is the ideal location. Aida owes its popularity among other things to the spectacular Triumphal Scene, in which Radames is welcomed as a hero after his victory over the Ethiopians. In addition to this magnificent aspect, Aida is also characterized by the intimate moments in which the personalities of the characters come to the fore in an impressive manner.
Especially for Aida at Sea a new version has been arranged by Marijn van Prooijen. For this purpose the length of the original opera has been reduced from three hours to 75 minutes. The story measures up to the original. Naturally the famous Triumphal Scene is not lacking.
For this beach opera a project choir of more than 300 singers, talented dancers, wonderful soloists, Theatre Choir Dario Fo and a 12-piece orchestra join their forces. In combination with a setting on the beach during sunset, Aida at Sea will be an overwhelming and unforgettable experience.
